VRL on the Move: Dispatch from the Field!
It was a rousing few days while we in the Mile High City last week, and we were busy interviewing civic leaders from community organizers to State Representatives. We spent two days making rounds at the State Capitol with Go Run alums who are now serving the people of Colorado including Representatives Crisanta Duran and Brittany Petterson, and State Senator Beth Martinez Humenick. They shared insight on what it takes to step up, brilliant “quick tips” on how they did it, and more inspirational moments than I could possibly list off in this quick blog post!
The most exciting part of our time in in Colorado was a tie between outlining the 36 weeks of courses for our 2015 Web Clinic curriculum and clinking glasses with the powerful women we spent time with at the Denver MeetUp Networking Event. Next, I headed to St. Louis to meet with community leaders and supporters in advance of National Go Lead happening in the Gateway to the West, May 8 & 9. (Over 50 applicants have already applied for the 100 spots, so get registered today!). We understand the gravity of what’s happened in Ferguson; I am strengthened by the resolve of women leaders in the St. Louis area and look forward to an amazing training event.
Now back in NYC for just a few days, we launched the first of our web clinics with the Members-Only session, “What Office Should I Run For,” yesterday. Didn’t get the notice? That means you are not yet a member. Take a minute to sign up for full (and free) membership benefits <link> of VRL Nation!
Next week, we head out Minneapolis to spend time with the Target’s Women’s Business Council and host a two-hour Mini-Training on March 4: focusing on turning your passion into power. Good news – we are live streaming the mini-training here so you can participate from anywhere!
We filmed two dozen women leaders during our time in Denver, and we couldn’t have done it without out the amazingly talented, and longtime friend of VoteRunLead, Barbara Wiener, Founder of TVbyGIRLS. She was dedicated and so full of passion and energy during filming – even though she had to leave her sweet fur-baby in doggy daycare for a few nights (that she watched on a camera app on her phone! Love it!).
What are you hoping we cover in the curriculum? Do you want us to visit your town? Tell us in the comments!
All my best,
