What is women’s history month without a week packed with events to promote women’s leadership! Well we’re all about women’s history, present, and future everyday at VoteRunLead, which is why I was so excited to reunite with the VRL team in my home city of Minneapolis! Erin came over from New York, Liz down from Duluth and we kicked off the week with the “Minneapolis Mini Training” at the African Development Center. In addition to the yummy food from Afro Deli, our post-training conversation was powerful – women shared with us their aspirations, fears, AND fearless attitudes! I left feeling inspired by that fact that we all have unique expertise; I am always energized by what we can accomplish just gathering and connecting with one another. I can’t wait for the next Minnesota training in April!
On Wednesday, we got up early and headed to Target’s corporate office (nice selfie, Erin!) for their Women-Owned Business Expo. Although VoteRunLead is a nonprofit, Target invited us to showcase their support of women’s leadership and of course, Invitation Nation, VRL’s tool to invite women to run and lead. (Have you checked it out?) At the expo we invited women to run, spread our message and captured the day with VRLs photo booth! Check out the awesome Target employees! #GoGirl
After talking to almost 3oo women at Target, the team headed to Open Book Café to continue planning for #NationalGoLead in St. Louis, May 8th and 9th and National Go Run 2015 in Atlanta, GA.
By 7pm, we headed to dinner with Go Run Alum and Minneapolis’s own Ilhan Omar. After great conversation and motivation, we read our fortunes out loud which included, “It takes one step to accomplish one goal,” and “After a great storm comes tranquility.”
The next day, Erin and Liz met with Minnesota Senator Sany Pappas at our Capitol.
As for me, this great storm of women’s leadership continues as I head next to Atlanta, GA today. Then, I am off to Selma, Alabama to attend the historic 50th Anniversary March. I’ll be with making history with VRL Co-Founder, Board Member, and Trainer Rhonda Briggins. Check out the Q&A she just did with us on organizing Anniversary events and her roots in Alabama and be inspired!
March on forward!
