On January 25th 1972 Shirley Chisholm announced her entry for Democratic nomination for the presidency.
She wore a bold print to demonstrate her sheer will and refusal to accept the status quo.

Shirley Chisholm was the first Black woman elected to Congress and the first to seek a major party’s nomination for president — and she did it unbought and unbossed, running as no one but herself.
