Erin Vilardi

Turning women in to winners.

Her Inspiration:

Erin Vilardi got her first taste of politics at age 12 when she petitioned her middle school in Lacey Township, New Jersey, to remove a sexist sign. From then on, she was convinced: If women ran the world, the world be be better run.

Her Idea:

In September 2014, Vilardi, now 33, launched VoteRunLead.org to foster a nonpartisan community of women who want to run for office. Member sign up for free online training on raising funds, organizing volunteers, campaigning, and public speaking. It’s OK if you aren’t ready to run just yet,” Vilardi says. “Take the first step and connect with women just like you.”

Though the site just launched, VoteRunLead’s in-person programs have already trained 15,000 women. Many are now sitting in state legislatures, city councils, boards, and commissions. One member, Kelly Westlund, a Democrat from Wisconcin, is even running for Congress. Look out, old boys’ club!
